When a star holds a concert or other big event, they typically hang out backstage in a place called the green room. Before they show up, the venue is sent a “rider,” which is a list of what the star wants in their room. Things like water and food usually appear on the list, but some celebrities ask for very specific – and bizarre – accommodations. Here are five stars that have very picky requests:
They don’t call Mariah Carey a diva without reason. She wants her room to be 75-degrees and outfitted with sofas in either dark gray, cream, dark pink, or black. There should also be two air purifiers, Cristal, bendy straws, and kittens.
As another singer with a reputation to live up to, Gaga has sent out riders asking for posters of musicians Billie Holiday, David Bowie, and Queen, as well as a mannequin designed with punk pubic hair. For food, she likes peanut butter with flaxseed, and 28 chilled water bottles, and another 28 water bottles at room temperature.
Superstar Rihanna likes her green room to be relaxed, so she asks for one humidifier, drapes in dark blue or black (complete with “icy-blue chiffon” on top, and a large plush and animal-print throw rug. She also asks for exactly Archipelago Black Forest candles, and if the venue can’t find them, they are instructed to call and find out what the backup candle is.
Sir Paul takes his vegetarian lifestyle very seriously. He asks for completely animal-free materials, so no furniture made from animal print or skin. Not even artificial animal print is allowed. He also wants lights with only halogen bulbs.
It’s been quite a while since Guns N’ Roses went on tour, but while they were big, Axl Rose demanded his own dressing room separate from the band. He wanted a steak dinner, a pepperoni pizza, a deli tray packed with meats, and a bottle of Dom Perignon.
