Celebrities often lose weight out of a sense of personal or professional obligation. One example of this is Jennifer Hudson, who needed to lose the weight she had gained during her pregnancy in order to star in a movie in which she played Nelson Mandela’s wife, Winnie. Close to a year after she embarked on her weight loss journey she started working as a spokeswoman for Weight Watchers after losing enough weight to go from size 16 to size 6.
Drew Carey was tasked with losing weight after he was diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes. Over a period of time he lost 80 pounds. According to Carey the secret to shedding the weight was cardio workouts six days per week and a diet emphasizing protein, vegetables and fruit. As a result of his weight loss he was able to safely stop taking Diabetes medication.
John Goodman weighed close to 400 pounds as recently as 2007. In order to lose weight he stopped consuming sugar and alcoholic drinks and also started exercising six days a week. As a result, he lost over 100 pounds.
When rapper 50 Cent lost weight in 2010, it was a temporary fix to accommodate an acting role in which his character was a victim of cancer. Over the course of nine weeks he went from his normal weight of 214 pounds all the way down to 160 pounds. After he was finished filming his part in the movie he gained the weight back.
Kelly Osborne was inspired to lose weight after competing on Dancing With the Stars. She stopped using food to help her handle her emotions and as a result she lost 50 pounds and appeared on the cover of Shape Magazine in 2010, with a size two body.
