Though the summer months are ending it will not be long before we begin dreaming of warmer months when time crawls by and the sunshine is plentiful. One state that has a great deal to offer as far as summer vacation is that of Colorado. Perhaps you will be lucky enough to take the next few weeks of warmer weather and enjoy the following top spots to visit in Colorado. How to enjoy colorado in summer:
One must-visit, especially for the adults is that of Colorado’s fruit and wine country. Primarily found around Palisade, Grand Junction, Hotchkiss, and Paonia, the mountains and plains create the perfect climate for charming wineries. Amongst the wineries are orchards full of cherry, peach, and apple trees found around neatly defined rows of grapevines. GO for the wine and stay for the view as the beautiful fruit contrasts against the blue sky and beautiful red sandstone mesas.
Outdoor Beauty
Another beautiful viewpoint is the Shrine Pass in the summer near Vail. During the summer months, the meadows dip into colorful areas full of brightly colored flowers that blanket each surface. The yellow daisies, Indian paintbrush, purple lupine, and fireweed offer a variety of colors to delight the senses. This is also a great area for hiking if desired. Another area that is great to hike in the summer months is that of the Ute Mountain Tribal Park near Cortez. Over a thousand years ago the Puebloans built cliff dwellings into the side of the cliffs, complete with irrigation systems. The area is relatively undisturbed and underdeveloped so the trails offer challenging narrow trails and steep ladders, but a feeling of independence in the vast expanse. Zapata Falls is also a hiker’s dream with a winding half-mile trail at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains near the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve. Once reached, the 40-foot tall falls offer a cool place to have a brief lunch or just enjoy the scenery.
