Like all Bay Area development projects, the Transbay Transit Center development has not gone off without a hitch. A few months ago developers threatened to back out of the plan due to the realization of the high property taxes that were not expected during earlier stages. There were additional fears the iconic rooftop park would be dropped due to budget shortfalls.
Luckily the project is now back on track, and the San Francisco Mayor has assured the park will be completed as planned with the transit center. The main terminal and park are slated for late 2017 completion, but it will likely be a decade or more before all development is completed.
In addition to the Transbay Transit Center itself, massive (if not unprecedented) building development is planned for the surrounding neighborhood, including the Salesforce tower which upon completion will be the tallest building in the Western United States at 1,070 ft. The title, however, will be lost upon the completion of the Wilshire Grand Tower in Los Angeles, a mere 30 feet taller.
