Dog Man – The Musical
Finally, there is the musical based on the popular comic book series “Dog Man” for young audiences returning to New York (first run was in 1999).
Dog Man: The Musical is off Broadway at New World Stages for a limited run of 8 weeks.
The musical is based on the first 3 books by Dav Pilkey. That series is very popular among young audiences. My experience with my kids who own all of those books and are eagerly waiting for the next installment to be published in the end of March, 2023 and interviews with kids and their parents after the show is that all and I really mean it, all of them love the musical and would like to see that run will be extended as well as continuation of musicals based on popular series.
Audience reacted with loud laughs and applause often, followed up with the story line and many commented right away with references to the book’s story. Children noticed that the musical is based on the first 3 installments of the series. Those who were in attendance are very much familiar with story lines and remember everything.
Dog Man with a Brilliant Cast
The production is a very bright and hilarious and heartfelt family adventure. The show is written by Kevin Del Aguila and Brad Alexander and directed by Jen Wineman. The cast of 6 actors DeShawn Bowens, Dan Rosales, Jamie LaVerdiere, Crystal Sha’nae, L. R. Davidson, and Brian Owen as Dog Man.
The soundtrack is brilliant, and the cast is excellent. All of the actors are in total sync with the book and appealing to a responsive audience the way that all are very happy and want to do it again. Brian Owen as Dog Man is funny and smart and fully believable as a man with a dog head. We love him.
Musical will celebrate its official opening night on March 13, 2023. The musical run coincides with the release of the latest installment of the series “Dog Man: Twenty Thousand Fleas Under the Sea”.
Last but not least, during the intermission and after the show there were long lines of kids and their parents to buy books and merchandise related to the story.
