As fall approaches and the weather gets cooler, clothing should not be the only thing that changes for people. Autumn brings with it a whole new color palette that a home can benefit from as well. Why should just clothing get switched out? Why not re-decorate, too? Here are some inspiring ways to do just that:
Wreaths

Outside decor is a no brainer to switch for each season, with wreaths being at the top of everyone’s list for fall decor. The magnitude of possibilities for types of wreaths is wonderful, but also can be overwhelming. With any wreath, the most important aspects are the color and material. Colors should be earthy tones of green and brown, but also some reds, oranges, and yellows of the leaves once they change colors. A nice dark purple also adds a nice touch for fall. In terms of material, fabric or straw are great choices, but flowers of course are a classic. Fabric wreaths have been a fun change of late, but any wreath is beautiful in its own way.
Curtains
Curtains are a touch that often go unnoticed, but can speak volumes when the right material is chosen. Spring and summer curtains are typically thin and flowy, gauzy even. However, that material does not work well once autumn weather comes around. Opt for thicker, woven knit curtains that keep the cold out when they are drawn. In terms of color, earthy tones are great, but it might be nice to go a little brighter and bolder with curtains to really let them stand out and brighten the room, even when drawn closed. A solid yellow or deep orange is a way to really get curtains to shout in a room. Traditionally, curtains are supposed to blend in and just be an accent, but this fall, let the curtains have center stage for once.
Pillows & Blankets
Blankets are like the scarves and hats of home decor.
Pillows and blankets are the perfect home accessories. They provide not only stylish looks, but also warmth and comfort; they are like the scarves and hats of home decor! Sofa accent pillows, bed accent pillows, and throw blankets are all accessories that are easy and fun to switch out for the change in seasons. Choose ones that have fun fall sayings or are a thicker knit opposed to a canvas material. With blankets, get some fleece and chunky knits, they will be needed when the temperature drops! Along those lines…bed sheets are another form of blanket that can be a fun switch because they can be as silly and mismatching as you want them to be because only you will see them!
Apart from the stylish looks, some blankets, especially premium weighted blankets, can also be very functional and help reduce anxiety and improve the quality of sleep.
Get out those penguin flannels and embrace the coziness.
Floral Arrangements
For those of you who enjoy artificial flowers, it is time to switch those vases of tulips out for some lovely sunflowers. Even the vases might be nice to change around. Go from bright, translucent vases to darker, opaque ones; they will contrast better with the yellow and orange hued flowers that tend to be in season during autumn.
Paintings
Art tends to be put up on a wall and say there until the day comes when the piece is no longer wanted. Well why not switch them out too? Replace those beachy scenes with tree-lined landscapes and earthy toned abstracts. There are so many gorgeous works out there, changing the ones that hang on your walls each season will enable more enjoyment from a larger variety of pieces.

Table Decor
So many things that sit on coffee tables should be switched around. If there are books typically sitting on the coffee table, why not make them relevant to fall? Autumn recipe books, photo books of autumnal fun, best things to do during the fall, really anything that relates this season. Candles and dishes, too, are easy to replace during the fall. Put out candles that smell like pumpkins, dishes in the shape of apples, things like that. Anything leafy and earth toned is perfect for this season.
