Every decade or so there comes a star who shines so brightly and inspires fashion and beauty trends to such an extreme that everyone wants some of that light to shine on them. In the 70s that star was Farrah Fawcett, who burst onto the scene in 1976 as one of the Charlie’s Angels.
Though she only stayed for one series, her star power become unstoppable, going on to star in many movies and TV shows.
Yet Farrah is best known not for her acting abilities but for her beauty and iconic hairstyle. Men wanted her, the red bikini poster gracing the walls of many, if not all, teenage boys during that time.
Women wanted to be like her flocking to the hairdressers to get “The Farrah”, the hairstyle now synonymous with 70s and early 80s style.
The flipped bangs and loose curls are in fact still very popular today.
Farrah appeared in many commercials during that time, especially for shampoo and hair products. She even had her own shampoo, called Farrah Fawcett for Faberge. Take a trip down memory lane and watch some of her commercials here. Of course, she’s riding a bike or a horse, her famous locks flowing in the wind.
Farrah Fawcett’s hair appears frequently on lists of the most inspiring hairstyles through out the decades.
If you want to achieve the look all you need are rollers, and a curling iron. After washing and drying your hair, start curling the hair framing your face, away from your face not inwards. The secret of her style was that her curls and flipped bangs go outwards not inwards.
If you have fine hair use a volumizing shampoo and moose for body and hold. After you finish setting your curls, keep them in place with lots of hair spray.
Farrah Fawcett passed away in 2009, but her beauty and effortless style will forever be an inspiration for generations to come.
