Unless you are an expert and seasoned interior designer, the chances are you made some pretty big decorating mistakes in your house. We all did! Maybe it is something simple as purchasing a new sofa without measuring it. Often when we are decorating a room, we do not take a step back to see a bigger picture. We tend to have a tunnel vision; we are occupied with transformation and filling out our space, but we miss seeing a house as a home.
Here are a few common mistakes we make when we are decorating a room or a whole house.
Having too Much Stuff
A cluttered room is your enemy, and the easiest way to tackle clutter is installing wall shelves and cabinets for storages. Keep in mind that maybe instead of completely decorating your home, you maybe need to edit a few things and get rid of few more. After all, you don’t want to look like a hoarder.
Are You Afraid of Colors?
Play with your favorite colors to bring more life in your house. Painting one wall in a different color is the easiest way to refresh any space. There is no reason to be scared of colors, after all, you can change it as often as you like.
Hanging Photos Too High
Hanging art too high is a big NO, but so many people make this mistake. Art should be hung approximately 8-10 inches above your furniture and about five feet from the floor. A rule of thumb is keeping art on the height of average viewer.
Not Enough Lightning
Not having enough lighting in your home can have a great impact on your mood and how you feel in your house. Lightning is probably the most important decorating element in your home, and you don’t want to be stuck with only overhead lighting. Lack of light can be fixed easily by adding multiple sources of light such as indirect lamps. Just like in professional photography, your home should have at least three sources of light.
Dull and White Kitchen
Falling into the trap of predictable and boring cabinets is easy. Instead of playing it safe with white or gray cabinets, have fun with designs and colors that will give an elegant and less predictable look to your kitchen.
