Julianne Hough, who will star as Sandy, alongside Vanessa Hudgens, who plays Rizzo, while Aaron Tveit will co-star opposite Hough as Danny, the heartthrob made famous by John Travolta in the original flick. The cast is rounded out by Keke Palmer, Carlos PenaVega, Carly Rae Jepsen, David Del Rio, Jordan Fisher, Andrew Call, Kether Donohue and Mario Lopez.
“Grease” is the first foray into live musicals for Fox, and it will be the first televised musical event of recent times to incorporate a studio audience, differing from NBC’s “Sound of Music,” “Peter Pan” and most recently, “The Wiz.”
Insiders say the live studio audience will add a much-needed element of the cast and crew, in hopes that the audience-fueled energy will come across on screen.
The Paramount Television production will be directed on stage by Thomas Kail, and on TV by Alex Rudzinski. Broadway writers Robert Cary and Jonathan Tolins wrote the script.
Musical airs Sunday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m. ET
