Are you a college student who lives in a dorm? Or, do you want to help your college kid create an inspiring, awesome room? Then you’re in luck, as there are so many ways to customize a room using DIY craft and life hack ideas. Implement it into your life and you will live clutter-free in a space that is personalized and even attractive.
One of the big things is to keep the dorm room from becoming cluttered. Don’t just cram things in when you move into the room, as there’s a good chance that you will just get busy and avoid moving it. Think of a place for everything when you first see your room. Make creative use of even the smallest space by using crates, shelves, shelving units, storage containers that you can slide under your bed to keep things tidy and similar organizational items.
Optimize the Floor Plan
Even though there’s only a small amount of space (likely about 10 ft. by 10 ft.) in your dorm room, you can maximize what you do with it and avoid tripping over things. Moving even just a couple of pieces of furniture can make a big difference. Consider turning your bed into a daybed, complete with several throw pillows and a throw blanket that you can take off when you’re ready to go to sleep if you wish. Your guests are sure to love the idea!
If you don’t want things monochrome or all the same pattern, see about finding complementing colors and patterns. Take a trip to the craft or home goods store and go a bit nuts looking at the various designs for pillows, bedding sets, curtains, rugs and more. You’d be surprised how great your room can look when you put thought into how everything works together. Of course, you likely have a roommate with whom you will have to compromise on the decorating, and this can be made easier when you both bring in your own ideas that do not clash too much.
Why not find an ottoman to use for both storage as a footrest or as an extra seat when you have friends over? You can get a TV center that doubles as a bookshelf, or for decorative objects that you just don’t want to part with from home.
Beautify the Walls
Posters, decals, paintings, and various other wall art all can help to put that little extra touch on an already awesome room. You can even use your own art and save money, or visit an entertainment store or bargain center for cheap items to liven up your walls and make you feel more at home.
