Facebook Stops Sending Staff to Help Political Campaigns
Facebook will not send their employees to work at the offices of political campaigns during election time anymore.
This might come as a surprise for some, but the social network used to send dedicated staff to a variety of politicians to help their campaigns and to develop their online advertising. Donald Trump’s digital director acknowledged that Facebook’s assistance helped President Trump win the 2106 presidential election. From the other side, Facebook stated that Hillary Clinton was offered to have the same support but she declined. The social network, Facebook, is the second largest online advertising broker, right behind Google.
Facebook is not alone, Twitter and Google also offered specialized advice during political campaigns. However, they have not indicated that they plan to end this practice. Facebook said they plan to offer free advertising advice to all political parties but only through their website. The political campaigns will be able to get support online and the company did not deny holding any meeting with politicians.
It’s believed that the 2016 election winner and now president of the USA Donald Trump’s campaign spent approximately $44m on Facebook ads from June to November 2016, while Hillary Clinton spent only $28m. The social media is the place where everyone looks for some type of content and that’s the place where politicians with the help of experts find their voters.
Amazon Makes Alexa Controlled Microwave
Amazon created a microwave which can be easily controlled by using its Alexa voice assistant. The microwave can work by simply saying “One Potato” and Alexa will send a voice message to a smart microwave estimating how much time it needs for one potato.
David Limp, Head of Devices at Amazon when asked why a smart microwave was introduced said:
“Well it’s really for one big reason which is, a large number of devices, not only in your kitchen but thought your house is not yet connected to this great thing of the internet.”
The world is largely moving in the direction of creating devices that are smart and connected to the internet. Devices are being introduced where we can with one word start a machine that we use by pressing a button.
David Limp said that we often use a microwave for simple heating and with the Alexa voice assistant we don’t have to think too much what time is needed for anything we want to make or heat.
The microwave was one of a range of new products introduced by Amazon within a new line of Alexa products. The company is also bringing out a new voice-controlled clock, better equipped audio devices, and range of devices which enable Alexa in your car.
Different companies within the industry have their own voice assistants, from Google assistant to Siri. Mostly these voice assistants are optimized only for phones and a lot of times their answers have to show you something and they don’t actually just do it in a voice like Alexa.
Alexa is the best-selling home voice assistant; however, Google is catching up fast.
Would You Play a Video Game Inspired by Brexit?
A new game has been created imagining a dystopian post-Brexit future in the UK where citizens of European heritage are exiled. The game is called “Not Tonight,” and the main scenario of the game is people with European heritage are relocated after Brexit to ghettos with low pay. Players of the game must earn as much money as possible to remain in the UK.
Mike Rose, director, and publisher explained the game, saying:
“Landlord will ask you ‘Don’t let any of this kind of person in tonight’ and you have to try and deiced whether you want to follow their rules or not. By the very end, you’re doing very silly things like working border control on the Dover border and on the London Wall. It very satirical.”
People wonder if the game should tackle more weighty subjects such as politics. The creators of the game believe there should be more politics in the world of gaming especially, now when politics and politicians are more interesting than they were a few decades ago.
