Why You Should Quit Social Media?
It seems that only social media and technology is not experiencing an existential crisis these days. Everything comes and goes, but only social media stays in our lives. Maybe social media is changing its form and shape, but with different names (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram…) yet we are receiving the same services and the same time is wasted.
Tech freaks are optimistic about the future of social media in general, and their obsession with tech gadgets and social media is contagious.
Social media has been in the spotlight recently due to being easily used for purposes of political marketing and spreading fake news. Furthermore, social media has always been accused of using our personal information and handing it to companies again usually for marketing purposes.
Additionally, the internet, smartphones and social media are alive and well, and we are all a part of it. It’s not something that happens without us. There are generations of people who grew up with their phones, and they are completely addicted to social media. However, emerging trends such as digitizing health care systems and self-driving cars require a certain level of trust from governments and citizens. In the past few years, it seems that social media is losing that trust from citizens around the world.
How much are we using social media? Do we trust it? Most of us, use social media frequently but we do not trust it, which will soon enough become a problem for social media companies.
$100 Million Investment in Genetic Extinction Technologies
New research suggests that modern technology could be used to help us deal with malaria. However, UN experts say that there is a strong fear that the military could use these technologies.
A USA military agency plans to invest $100 million in genetic extinction technologies that could help us fight malarial mosquitoes. The UN Convention on Biological Diversity is strongly debating whether they should impose a moratorium on these type of gene researchers for possible military applications. The military could misuse genetic extinction technologies as a dangerous form of bio-weapons.
Recently Jim Thomas, a co-director of the ETC group said that the recent US military influence would strengthen the ban on the use of genetic extinction technologies for any type of military purposes. He said: “The dual-use nature of altering and eradicating entire populations is as much a threat to peace and food security as it is a threat to ecosystems. Militarisation of gene drive funding may even contravene the Enmod convention against hostile uses of environmental modification technologies.”
The support of the ban comes from statistics such as the $820 investment of the US military on synthetic biology from 2008 to 2014.
From the other side, gene-drive pioneer, Andrea Crisanti, from the Imperial College, London said: There is no way this technology could be used for any military purpose. The general interest is in developing systems to contain the undesired effects of gene drives. We have never been asked to consider any application, not for the good of eliminating plagues.”
The Popularity of Enterprise Technologies
Remember the time when digital technology was limited to only big companies that could afford it and that genuinely needed those tools. A few decades ago, computers were common at work but rare in homes. Today, there is no home without a computer, laptop, iPad and couple of iPhones. Digitial technology is less expensive and affordable to most of us. The same thing applies to different tools and applications that help us organize our personal life and business. Whether you are part of a big company or you have a small creative team, you can use different programs and apps for the same purposes.
Modern technology tools are so simple and easy that you do not need a user guide or manual to know how it works. The most customer friendly tools are easy to use as Facebook or Wix. For technologies that could be used for everyday purposes or building a business, using it easily and the mobility of the application is what matters in today’s world. Also, the important thing for a business and personal user is a personalized application that can be adjusted to meet the needs of its consumer. It really does not matter what type of business you have or what type of event you are organizing, you can use the same application to create a website that would be personalized and in line with your needs.
