If you like adventure, the usual tourist spots probably aren’t high on your list. Does that apply to where you eat, too? Have you ever wanted to eat underwater? Or suspended high in the air? Here are some of the most interesting restaurants around the world:
Ithaa Undersea Restaurant
Conrad Maldives
This high-end resort that spans two private islands has many dining options. The most interesting is the Ithaa Undersea Restaurant. Located five meters below the surface, Ithaa is the world’s first undersea eatery. It’s also one of the most interesting restaurants you could visit. You can make reservations for weddings, special occasions, and private dining. In 2017, it won the Global Restaurant of the Year and Luxury Unique Experience award. The lunch and dinner menus are set and you can also stop by for cocktails in the mid-morning.
Soneva Kiri
Thailand
For a gorgeous trip to paradise, it’s hard to beat Soneva Kiri Experiences. There many activities to choose from, like a cooking class, diving, and sun-bathing on the beach. For food, check out Treepod Dining. It’s found 15-feet in the air in the Koh Kood rainforest, giving you unbelievable ocean views. The servers bring your meal from ziplines. If you prefer to stay on the ground, there’s also the Mushroom Cave Lunch. It’s a private vegetarian lunch for four in a cave. Enjoy over six varieties of the mushroom grown in the Mushroom Hut.
Ninja New York
New York
Found in the TriBeCa area, Ninja New York is all about, not surprisingly, ninjas. The design resembles a traditional Japanese ninja village, so you’ll feel transported in time. Enjoy sushi and other dishes all delivered by servers dressed as ninjas. They take their role to heart, moving silently and entertaining guests with magic and knife performances. It might be an obscure reference, but fans of the Adult Swim show “Venture Bros” might recognize Ninja New York’s inspiration in a 2016 episode.
Heart Attack Grill
Las Vegas
Nothing about this place is subtle, so it’s perfect for Vegas. The Heart Attack Grill celebrates all unhealthy food and its potential consequences. Servers dress as nurses and when you enter the establishment, you’re given a hospital gown. Their signature dish is a 3-pound hamburger clocking in at almost 10,000 calories. True to its name, the restaurant has been linked to heart issues. In 2013, one of the restaurant’s frequent customers suffered a fatal heart attack at a bus stop. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the US. To have a restaurant designed around it might be in poor taste to some.
The Waterfalls Restaurant
Villa Escudero resort
Found in the Philippines at the Villa Escudero resort, this restaurant wants you to take off your shoes. You eat on bamboo tables right in the water only feet away from a man-made waterfall. On especially hot days, it’s the perfect place to grab a bite. The menu includes lots of local ingredients like fish, rice, BBQ chicken, and bananas.
Dinner In the Sky
Multiple locations
Have you ever wanted to eat a gourmet meal while suspended high in the air? Most interesting restaurants need a hook and Dinner in the Sky takes theirs to new heights. A giant crane holds the table and platform high in the sky. Guests wear harnesses, so it’s perfectly safe. Since 2006, Dinner in the Sky has held events in dozens of countries. You can find upcoming ones on their website.
