The China Development Forum, the most important economic summit, was organized last weekend in Beijing. The pay-to-play event includes participants such as academics, politicians and the most successful CEOs around the world. All participants who are invited to participate in this event are obligated to donate one million dollars or more. Furthermore, participants who pay more can be seated next to the world’s top leaders. Some of the participants are Christine Lagarde, International Monetary Fund Director, former USA Secretary, Henry Kissinger and the CEOs of world’s major companies such as Boeing, IBM, Siemens and Facebook.
Mark Zuckerberg participated in this event, even though in China Facebook is banned. He started his session speaking in Chinese, highlighting his interest in the biggest economic forum in the world and the Chinese five-year economic plan. Zuckerberg also expressed his confidence that China as a country will grow based on their scientific and technological improvements.
In 2016, the National People’s Congress approved a five-year plan that’s focused on economic and social policy.
There is not a lot of information from the China Development Forum since it’s mostly covered by Chinese media. China is the world’s second largest economy where media is largely controlled by the country. The China Development Forum started in 2000, with only 19 participants.
