The custom of trick-or-treat become well established in popular culture by 1952, when Walt Disney portrayed it in the cartoon Trick or Treat with Donald Duck (see right)!
Trick-or-treating, is usually done by children on Halloween, as they go from house to house in costumes, asking for treats.
The “trick” part of “trick or treat” is a threat to play a trick on the homeowner or his property if no treat is given. Like the song in the cartoon says, “You better not be stingy or your nightmares will come true!”
Trick-or-treating is one of the main traditions of Halloween, and we should all have a bowl of candy ready at our door on Halloween night!
