Easily reached from the parks in Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Botswana, Victoria Falls Town is the perfect base from which to start or end to any safari and is accessed by the Victoria Falls International Airport.
Famously known as ‘the smoke that thunders’, Victoria Falls is arguably one of the most spectacular waterfalls on earth. Forming the border between Zambia in the North and Zimbabwe in the South waters from the mighty Zambezi River spill into a 100m-deep canyon over 1.7km wide to make it the largest waterfall on the planet.
Victoria Falls was discovered by the famed Scottish explorer David Livingstone in 1855 while attempting to find a route to the East Coast of the African continent. Led to the magnificent falls by the Makalolo Tribes people in a dugout canoe, he named them after the British Monarch, Queen Victoria. Known by the locals as ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya’ or the ‘the smoke that thunders’, Victoria Falls was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1989 for being one of the most breathtakingly beautiful waterfalls in the world.
