Long the subject of slapstick comedy movies, slipping on a banana peel remains a popular joke touchstone to this day. In the 60s, smoking banana peels became a popular method of, supposedly, getting high (a fallacy from jump street). Gildshire wondered if anything new and fascinating has developed when it came to the humble skin of a banana. Keep reading and see what we found. We predict you will be as surprised as we were.
What Can a Banana Peel Be Used For?
As it turns out, what can’t it be? Here are just a few ways a banana peel can enhance your life.
- Grill a juicier piece of chicken: Who hasn’t been defeated by a skinless chicken breast, because they lay there, mocking you with their very dryness. Place some banana peel over each breast as it cooks, because banana peel creates a skin-like barrier, helping the breast retain more natural juices.
- Say Goodbye to Aphids: Cut up a few banana peels, and dig an inch deep hole at the base of your plants. Place the peels in the hole. Aphids (and ants too) dislike the potassium, so the bugs seek a better environment elsewhere.
- Remove Ink Stains From Your Skin: You don’t know how they got there, but you have unsightly ink stains on your hands! Rub the underside of a banana peel on the ink stains and watch them disappear. The natural oils in the banana peel attract the oils the ink contains.
- Whiten teeth on the cheap: We have all seen the ads on TV for toothpaste that whiten your teeth, 3,4, 10 shades, or more. The problem is, some of those pastes are hard on your teeth. Bring on the peel! Rub the underside of the peel against your teeth right after you brush them. It only takes about two minutes a day. The gentle citric acid in the peel will brighten the surface of your teeth without wearing out the enamel. Within a week, you will notice a difference or your money back!
Can you eat banana peel?
Your grandmother told you that most of the nutrients in fruit and veggies are found in the peels. You have faithfully eaten the skin on your baked potato ever since. As it turns out, banana peels are both edible and loaded with nutrients. Loads of Vitamin B Complex, Magnesium, and of course, Potassium are onboard. People in eastern cultures have been eating banana peel for centuries.
Does Banana Peel Remove Dark Spots?
Rub a banana peel on dark spots, and they will fade away.
We doubt that anything will surprise you now. Banana peels both help to lighten the skin tone and can help take care of dark circles as well. Take the underside of the peel, rubbing it over the affected area every day. Then wash your face with a moist cloth.
Why You Should Never Throw Away Banana Peels
Isn’t all of this enough so far? Do you want more reasons? Okay, the various vitamins, potassium, and iron hydrate the skin on your face and boost collagen production. This makes the skin look younger and RETARDS THE ONSET OF WRINKLES, PEOPLE! Finally, banana peels work as an exfoliator and remove the excess sebum on the surface of the skin.
Impressed much? Gildshire was, even though it takes a lot to blow us away. Obviously, we have never respected the peel of a Dole banana the way we will in the future. The Three Stooges ruined our perception. At least, that’s our story, and we’re sticking with it.
