What To Wear in Autumn
Autumn is coming up fast – Starbucks is even selling their famous pumpkin spice latte already! – so that means it’s time to rotate your wardrobe to warmer pieces. If you love being hip to what’s cool, here’s what the runways predicted would be in style this season:
Bite back with animal prints
Yes, that one aunt will be fashionable again this autumn! Leopard print in particular made a big impact, but pretty much any animal print – even zebra and crocodile- can be very cool through fall and winter this year. For the sake of the animals, always go with faux snakeskin, crocodile, and so on. No one can tell the difference.
Shiny and glossy
If it’s shiny and glossy, bring it out from the back of your closet. Patent-red dresses showed up in Simone Rocha’s collection, and you’ll be seeing glossy materials on coats, pants, and more.
What To Wear in Autumn
Leather love
Leather also showed up on runways, especially skirts, pants, and trench coats. While maybe not the most practical of materials, leather is in these days, and you don’t have to choose just from black or brown. For your standout piece, look for a leather jacket in a bright color like red, teal, or even yellow.
Terrific tweed
The material of intellectuals, tweed is the perfect cozy, classy look for fall. Try out tweed trousers, coats, suits, and more. There are a wide variety of tweed patterns and colors, too, so you can always keep things fresh.
Time to play (with) checkers
Similar to tweed, plaid and checkered print is also in this autumn. It can be as simple as a cozy flannel and as dynamite, as a tartan coat, that’s sure to get attention.
Brown is beautiful
Brown is anything but boring for autumn, even if you’re wearing it head-to-toe. Texture is what will make an outfit with similar shades work, so consider wearing something like a shiny brown leather jacket, coffee-colored flannel shirt, beige tweed trousers or a skirt, and brown shoes.
Layers on layers
The phrase “protective layers” popped up a lot in the research for this article, so if you’re always cold, you’ll be happy to learn your multiple layers of clothing are fashionable. Get ready for scarves, head coverings, big puffy coats, and even “blanket” coats.
Multiple prints
A feast for the eyes, models showed up multiple prints in their outfits this year. Think criss-crossing tweeds or a cheetah-and-crocodile print right next to each other. To get the look, pair different styles of a texture like plaid together and pull it all together with one neutral, solid-colored piece of clothing.
Go West, Young Man
The era of the cowboy is back. Whether it’s fringe or cowboy boots, a lot of designers hopped aboard a Western-inspired train this year. It’s a look that gives you a cool vintage, outdoorsy vibe.
Goodbye, summer sandals
Your shoes change as the weather gets cooler, and this fall, you have your pick from lace-up boots, classic pumps, cowboy boots, and shoes with pointed toes. If you have the cash to burn, you can also check out the new trend of “luxury sneakers.” These pricey kicks combine high fashion with practicality, like a nearly $600 pair from Prada.
Dark nail polishes
If you always have your nail painted, autumn is the time to switch from summery colors to darker ones. This year, get ready for deep blood reds, metallic jewel tones, charcoal, eggplant, burgundy, caramel, and classic black.
