We’re in the last months of 2019 and soon 2020 – a new decade – begins. If you love to travel, where are the places you should consider going? Here are the trending 2020 travel destinations, according to Airbnb:
#20: Maastricht, Netherlands
In the 20th spot for trending 2020 travel, you can find Maastricht, a municipality and capital city of the Limburg province. It’s one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands and home to beautiful churches, shops, and more. Be sure to visit St. Peter’s caves, which were excavated beneath Saint Peter’s Mount. Miners began excavating the limestone over 1,000 years ago, so now there’s a tunnel system over 80 km/49 miles long. You can walk through the caves with a guided tour. The Maastricht area is also home to vineyards, craft beers, and Limburgse vlaai, a type of pie.
#15. Ubatuba, Brazil
One of the main cities on the North Shore of Sao Paulo, Ubatuba has almost 100 beaches, so if you want a vacation where you can just sit on the sand and watch the sunrise or sunset, this is the place to be. Because of a heavy rainy season, it’s best to visit between August and December. Praie Grande is arguably the most popular beach, so during peak tourist season, it can be crowded. However, because there are so many beaches, you can find a quieter one if you rent a car. Because of the town’s coastal setting, expect to find lots of great seafood.
#10. Vanuatu
Up 140% from 2019, Vanuatu is a trending 2020 travel spot. A collection of over 80 islands, the Pacific Vanuatu archipelago is paradise. Sights include Mt. Yasur, an active volcano that you can get very close to with a guide and Champagne Beach, a very popular white sand beach. For more of a downtown experience, check out Port Villa, which offers lots of cafes, markets, and activities like diving and zip-lining. Port Villa also has the biggest range of accommodation options, so whether you have a small or a large budget, it’s a good place for your base of operations.
Bran’s Castle
#5. Romania
There’s a wide range of travel experiences in Romania, including Transylvania, which is found in the central region of the country. There, you can find Bran Castle, which most likely inspired Dracula’s castle. There are other castles to visit, as well, in addition to medieval-era towns. If you like to keep active on vacation, you can find trails up to the peaks of Moldavia, and less challenging walks through all kinds of forests and meadows. Local cuisine includes cabbage-and-pork rolls, beef tripe soup, meatballs, sausages, and more.
#1. Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Up a whopping 729%, the fact that Milkwaukee, Wisconsin is the top trending 2020 travel destination is unexpected. The fact that Airbnb is hosting 20,000 people for the 2020 Democractic National Convention is probably a big reason. That’s not all Milkwaukee has to offer, though. Lake Michigan is close by and there’s a good restaurant and bar scene. If you are a cyclist, be sure to check out the miles and miles of bike trails.

If the idea of visiting an active volcano is exciting, you’ll love these other naturally-creepy places around the world, like the Darvaza gas crater in Turkmenistan. This strange spot goes by another name: the Gates to Hell.
