What are the world’s most beautiful sunsets is subjective, but millions of Instagram users and tourists can’t be wrong. These photographers have singled out specific areas and taken gorgeous snaps of sunsets. If you’re a sunset-chaser, be sure to check out these spots:
California, United States
California is one of the best places to get views at any time of the day. Photographers especially love sunsets in the winter months. Why? In the winter, twilight lasts a bit longer than usual. The colors from a sunset are caused by rays of light passing through layers and layers of air, which are filled with water particles and dust. The light bends, resulting in gorgeous oranges, purples, and reds.
Rome, Italy
There are no shortages of cities where you can witness amazing sunsets. Rome and Sicily (which is an autonomous island in the Mediterranean Sea) are the most popular spots. When you see a sunset in Rome, the colors play off both ruins and more modern buildings, while Sicily’s beaches provide an uninterrupted view of the horizon.
The World’s Most Beautiful Sunsets: Santorini, Greece
Santorini, Greece
Greece is comprised of a series of islands and Santorini is the most photographed. It might be the most photographed island in the world. The impossibly-smooth, white buildings and ocean water reflect evening light perfectly. Oia, which is found at the northernmost part of Santorini, is especially popular.
Bali, Indonesia
Whether you want a classic sunset-over-a-beach photo or one adorned with ancient temples, Bali provides. When you visit the Uluwatu Temple, which is built on a cliff over 200-feet above sea level, you get a fantastic view of the horizon and Indian ocean.
The World’s Most Beautiful Sunsets: Paris, France
Paris, France
Of course, the City of Love has to be on the list. The Eiffel Tower at sunset is one of the most photographed images in the world and for good reason. Another great spot is right on the River Seine, which reflects the vibrant, changing colors of the sky as the sun goes down. You can go to a bridge or even take a river cruise to catch the final rays.
Sydney, Australia
With its distinct Opera House, Sydney is already a beautiful city. It takes on a magical vibe when the sun sets and you can get a shot of the Opera House and magnificent steel arch bridge. If you want a more naturalistic shot, head down the Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk, which offers beaches, cliffs, and more.
How to take the perfect sunset photo
If you visit one of these places or see a beautiful sunset right at home, how do you take a great photo? The first step is to use a real camera, not a smartphone. You want to be able to play with the exposure and take shots using a variety of shutter speeds. Switch into shutter priority mode or aperture mode to see what you get. There is no “right” way, so now is a great time to experiment with what your camera can do.
Designers, editors, and artists will attest to the fact that capturing something naturally and then replicating the same on the screen is not as easy as it sounds. The lighting effects need to be adjusted, and for that you need an exceptional video and photo editing suite like fixthephoto. Colour corrections and grading, the way you want it to some out requires exhaustive editing work. Without an excellent software at your disposal, you will not be able to achieve the desired results.
Another tip is to include some kind of silhouette, like a building, tree, or person. This gives you a sense of scale. If you want the structure to show up and not be a silhouette, that’s trickier, because you need enough light and flash to show both. The best advice, though, is to just keep shooting. Sunsets are quick and the light changes constantly, so don’t just settle for one shot. Take a bunch of pictures and look at them later to see how the color evolves.
